SeaWorld, in case you've missed the globally issued memo, absolutely sucks. Blackfish (add to your Netflix queue if that doesn't immediately trigger your memory) placed a very public spotlight on the self-described "family entertainment company" and its profoundly unsettling mistreatment of orcas in captivity. To summarize that film's extensive findings, SeaWorld treats their captives (hint: that's the key word) with an apparent and egregious disregard for common decency and general welfare.
Former Jackass stalwart Steve-O has been quite vocal about his disgust for SeaWorld, a passion bolstered by his strict veganism (revealed in his 2011 memoir Professional Idiot: A Memoir). In 2014, Steve-O took awesomely proud credit for altering a California highway sign to read, succinctly, "SeaWorld sucks." Thankfully, the threat of charges stemming from that incident hasn't deterred Steve-O in the slightest, as he was reportedly arrested this weekend during a daring anti-SeaWorld demonstration in Hollywood.
Steve-O, cradling the inflatable orca pictured above, climbed a 100-foot crane and set off fireworks before being apprehended by local authorities. According to NBC 4 in Los Angeles, Steve-O could face a range of charges including "conspiracy to commit a crime, trespassing, setting off explosives (fireworks) within city limits without a permit, and filming for personal gain without a permit." Thankfully, the vigilant animal rights activist documented a fair portion of the proceedings via Facebook: A socially conscious entry in the Jackass canon centered on animal rights activism is something for which I would absolutely fork over a great deal of money. Make it happen, Steve-O!
